Southeast Asia is the native country of Burmese cats, where they were revered already 500 years ago. Later they were imported to Europe and the U.S.A. A systematic breeding has been developed on the basis of the import presenting till nowadays two differently adapted types of an American and of an European Burmese cat.Burmese cats look like little athletes. The reason is a wiry bodily structure hidden under the silky coat of these cats. Always observant and very active Burmese cats are not very big, but they are amazingly heavy, when you take them in your arms. And as far as a good condition and mobility is concerned, these smart pets with exotic name are almost unsurpassable. Not any scratching trunk is too high for them, not any leap too far. Burmese cats are very active cats and the life is too short for them to sleep away (they sleep about 13 – 15 hours a day). As only few owners of these house tigers have time enough to be occupied with them almost the whole day, it is very useful to breed several Burmese cats together so that they can at least let off a part of their energy among themselves. Of course, it is possible to breed Burmese cats with other breeds. Another passion of these cats is caressing and that is the great task of their master or mistress. Long hours of caressing on the sofa should belong to the daily programme, otherwise there is going to be trouble. Burmese cats decidedly need love of their “man“.
